Mediterranian gardens filled with beachy plants, pine trees, wild flowers and billowing grasses surround the shaded terraces at aptly named Villa das Flores, which is located a stone’s throw from the wild Atlantic coastline of Comporta - an hour away from Lisbon. Inside, interiors are reminiscent of a typical bohemian cabana, dotted with curious objects, books and design-led furniture. This is a private home, opened up for the use of special and particular guests, so an experience here is akin to staying in the home of a friend. Check into this renovated fisherman’s cottage for a few days of barefoot living and beach going, the sands of which are just a walk away.

The Neighbourhood: The warm stretch of sand that elongates 70kms down the Atlantic coast is within walking distance from the house which sits on a nature reserve. In the white-washed village of Comporta itself, the bank, church, bakery, offices, factories & workers’ houses all retain their rustic, laid-back character & sit happily beside eco-chic boutiques & restaurants.
Things to know: Mosquitos in Comporta can be pesky, but in this part of the area, set back from the rice paddies they are slightly more under control. Just make sure you pack a (natural) spray & be prepared to light candles in the evening.

Villa das Flores is located just behind Pego Beach in the region of Comporta, around an hours drive from Lisbon. Fly to Lisbon & rent a little car to take a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
