Tucked away behind the rustic rice paddies of Comporta, Casa Nas Dunas oozes beach-shack chic. The private house, which is available for exclusive rental, embraces a refined decoration in harmony with nature, perfectly combining authenticity with discreet luxury. Sarah Fater, the owner of the house, worked with architect Isabelle Stanislas to renovate three fisherman’s cottages in classic Comporta style, filling them with curiosities and furniture collected on her travels around the region. Sleeping up to ten people in five quiet cabanas, this is the perfect place to curate a week, two or even three around.
Spend your days lounging barefoot on the driftwood decking, dipping in & out of the hydrangea rimmed swimming pool. For sand seekers, take long lunches on the beach at nearby Sublime Comporta Beach Club before a spot of rustic retail therapy in Carvalhal, essential before sundowners overlooking orange sunsets on the rice fields with a gin & tonic.
Room Service
Location: Carvalhal, Comporta.
Price: On request. The minimum stay is 7 nights in high season and 3 nights in low season.
Sleeps: Ten people in five double ensuite bedrooms.
Highlights: The gardens mean the property is filled with the scent of pine & eucalyptus & that particular fragrance that comes at the end of a long, hot summer day – a mix of salt, sunscreen & warm sand.
Our favourite room: The master suite in the main house, or one of the poolside rooms in the cabanas.
Services: Self-catered but with access to the kitchen garden. A private chef can also be arranged as well as in house massages. A weekly turndown service is on request.

The Neighbourhood: A short drive away is the village of Carvalhal dotted with little bakeries & interior boutiques, as is the beach which is home to one of our favourite restaurants in Comporta, Sublime Comporta Beach Club.

Casa Nas Dunas is located just outside of the village of Comporta, around an hour’s drive from Lisbon. Fly to Lisbon & rent a vintage jeep to fit in with the locals & take a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
