A stay in Comporta, at the Silent Living collective’s Casas Na Areia, evokes a feeling that is impossible to put your finger on. A feeling based on surprise, on savouring & submerging fully into the joy of nature. Fall back into calming & mindful moments, stripped back amongst tactile, minimal interiors & experimental architecture (read: heated sand as your living room floor…).
By removing fuss & focusing on what matters, the space designed by Aires Mateus, features three minimal bedrooms sleeping six people in small, low-built, thatched cabanas, hooped with tightly packed grasses from the riverbanks and beams of wood from the pine forests. A living area & kitchen are complemented with a private pool on the edge of the rice paddies. The simplicity of the staging forces a pensive reflection inwards, allowing guests to reconnect & focus, finding unexpected magic. Comporta village is just around the corner for those that like to compliment their downtime with a little uptime, mill from chic little restaurants to a spot of rustic retail therapy.

Room Service
Location: Just outside of Comporta Village in the Alentejo.
Price: Full house rental starts at 350€ per night.
Sleeps: Four bedrooms sleep eight people.
Highlights: The simplicity of the original, straw clad fishing house indulges a unique authenticity while innovative features like the living room floor, made up of heated sand, create an experience that brings guests closer to nature, in a design-led setting.
Services: Breakfast is brought to the house each day, but otherwise, the dwelling is self-catered.

The Neighbourhood: The property is located on the rice paddies of Comporta & a stone’s throw away from the buzzy village (which quietens down in the Autumn & Winter months). Hop on one of the house bicycles & explore or spend your days on the beach or by the pool with a book for maximum relaxation.
Need to Know: Comporta is renowned for mosquitos so make sure to steer clear of sitting outside at sunset.

Casas Na Areia is located just outside of the village of Comporta, around an hours’ drive from Lisbon. Fly to Lisbon & rent a vintage jeep to fit in with the locals, taking a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
