Thoughtfully designed by Swiss-Portuguese couple Marianne and Vitor, the cottage is a testament to their vision of crafting a tranquil hideaway that honours the region’s natural beauty and heritage. Their beautifully restored retreat blends rustic character with modern comforts, featuring a private pool with breathtaking valley views and a unique outdoor stone bath—perfect for unwinding in any season. Set within a sprawling 4000 sqm property, Javalina is surrounded by majestic trees, striking granite boulders, and lush greenery, creating a peaceful haven for introverts and those seeking silence and respite from the real world.
Originally hidden beneath overgrown foliage, Javalina was carefully restored over two years to preserve its authentic charm while incorporating elegant, handcrafted details. Inside, antique market finds and traditional Portuguese craftsmanship create a cozy yet refined atmosphere. The cottage offers a spacious bedroom with a king-size bed, a comfortable living area, and a fully equipped kitchen, ensuring a home-like experience. Whether soaking in the outdoor bath, lounging by the pool, or simply enjoying the surrounding tranquility, guests at Javalina can experience the perfect blend of romance, comfort, and nature in one of Portugal’s most breathtaking regions.

Services: The house is self-catered and features a well-equipped kitchen with electric hob, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, and toaster, providing everything needed for home-cooked meals. Both the bedroom and living room are air-conditioned for comfort, and the house includes Wi-Fi. Each morning, a fresh breakfast basket filled with seasonal ingredients and local specialties is delivered to the doorstep.

Javalina is located just outside of the town of Penha Longa near to the banks of the Douro River. Fly to Porto and rent a car for a little road trip and some freedom while you’re there.
