Sublime Comporta is a tranquil getaway in the sleepy setting of Comporta’s heady pine forests, a little over an hour’s drive from Lisbon. A former family home that the owners loved so much, they couldn’t help but share it, Sublime consists of a collection of driftwood cabanas occupying a 17-acre estate of woodlands & wildflowers. Arrive at a driveway blanketed in spring by a carpet of wild daisies & foxgloves as you turn into the gardens of the hotel before edging through a set of peach-coloured doors to check-in.
A gravel path leads the way past cork oak trees & umbrella pines to the hotel's heart: an open-plan lobby that nods to the area’s history as the centre of rice farming in Portugal. The infinity bio-pool is settled in front of a blush-pink spa & a fire pit which comes alight in the evening to encourage sultry, sociable nights. The hotel restaurant (a must during any stay at Sublime) is sophisticated, relaxed & the perfect showcase for the regions simple, seasonal & regional cuisine.

Highlights: The farm to table restaurant & ‘food circle’ experience are not to be missed. Sublime Beach Club is a short drive away for long and lazy lunches on the sand.
Our favourite room: For families, the driftwood cabanas are perfect. Apart from the lobby & main building, they offer plenty of privacy inside cork walls & under exposed wooden beams set upon concrete floors dotted with pine stools & rattan lampshades.
Services: Rates include breakfast & a daily turndown, completed by all hotel amenities. A spa with a peaceful heated pool, a sauna, steam bath & a fleet of celestial therapists is a way to relax after a day exploring in rentable beach buggies or on bicycles which will help you to settle into the Comporta vibe.

The Neighbourhood: Although the property is isolated, a short drive away is the village of Comporta which comes alive in the summer. Closeby is a sixty kilometre stretch of wide-open Atlantic beach or go inland to sample a slice of Portugal’s lesser-known wine region, the Alentejo.

Sublime is located just outside of the village of Comporta, around an hours’ drive from Lisbon. Fly to Lisbon & rent a vintage jeep to fit in with the locals, & take a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
