Spatia Comporta
COMPORTA / HOTEL / TRIED & TESTED
Comporta is part of Portugal’s Alentejo region, an hour South of Lisbon where appears a landscape made up of sandy plains dotted with rice fields, dunes & farms. Amongst them, just below Comporta village is Spatia - a calm & serene hotel tucked inside its own mini forest of sand, grasses & pine trees with a blissfully natural aesthetic. A clean, contemporary design is brought to life in elements such as light hues, thatched roofs, rattan furnishings, crisp white bedding & exposed wooden beams that feel almost gazebo-like. On entering the space, the smell of the wood soothes the senses & high ceilings are complemented by quiet courtyards & outdoor seating.
This is a place that acts as a monument to relaxation, aided by the hotel’s spa & facilities such as tennis courts & bicycles to really immerse yourself into nature’s wellness-boosting properties. Though the pool provides ample opportunity for switching off all day long, the beach is just a small hop away to try your hand at surfing, or to watch local communities of dolphins swim by.
Room Service
Location: Comporta, Alentejo.
Price: Rooms start from 225€ per night.
Highlights: While some of the other Comporta hotel’s can be quite ‘scene’ driven in the summer, Spatia is wonderfully low-key for those who prefer to see but not be seen.
Our favourite room: The suites are wonderfully spatious & come with their own private terraces with a hammock perfect for those afternoon siestas.
Services: A stay at the hotel includes a delicious breakfast, daily housekeeping & access to Spatia's Club. Guests can also add on spa treatments, shuttle service & transfers, beach club at Praia do Pego, catering services, grocery service, a private chef & more.

The Neighbourhood: Although the property is isolated, a 20 minute drive away is the village of Comporta which comes alive in the summer. Closeby is Praia do Pego & a sixty-kilometre stretch of wide-open Atlantic beach or go inland to sample a slice of Portugal’s lesser-known wine region, the Alentejo.
Things to know: While we love the remote setting of the hotel, hiring a car is most definitely necessary to make the most of your time here & explore the area. It’s also worth noting that, as of 2022, a second resort is being constructed opposite & in the months outside of July & August, can cause some light construction noise. Works are set to end in mid 2023.
