Quinta do Pinheiro is the Algarve’s most recently opened design-led retreat (as of February 2025) and our most fresh favourite hideaway in the Eastern enclaves of Portugal’s sunniest region. A thoughtfully restored farmhouse set back from the dramatic waterways of the Ria Formosa, its a place that pays homage to a rich agricultural history, creating way for a truly authentic and curious experience. Set within 35 hectares of olive groves and vineyards, the estate was once home to families who lived and worked the land, producing wine and supporting the local community. Now, under the careful vision of two Dutch visionaries - Monique, a former journalist, and her husband, Martijn - it has been reimagined as an understated yet elevated escape in 5 self-catered cottaages, each with 2-3 bedrooms.
On arriving, prepare to be struck by the property’s crisp white façade, original terracotta tiles, and minimalist interiors that blend seamlessly with the rural landscape. Antique furniture, curated photography, and objects discovered during the renovation tell stories and offer a refined yet deeply connective retreat - quiet luxury at its’ most laid back best. Beyond the beautifully restored interiors, Quinta do Pinheiro embraces the Algarve’s natural beauty and slower rhythms of life. Communal spaces, including a former museum turned yoga studio, abundant green gardens and olive groves, a central pool (respectfully converted from the properties old water tank), vineyards and avocado orchards, invite guests to slow down and reconnect with the essence of the estate.

As one of the Algarve’s most exciting new openings, Quinta do Pinheiro is more than just a retreat; it’s a living tribute to the region’s past, reimagined for the modern traveler.

Services: Each of the houses include daily cleaning service, with linen changes twice a week, and the option to request breakfast. Amenities include 100% cotton bed linens, feather and down pillows and duvets, premium toiletries, air conditioning, underfloor heating, fully equipped kitchens, hairdryers, towels, bathrobes, beach towels and more.

The Neighbourhood: A short walk away, the Ria Formosa Natural Park offers endless opportunities for exploration and guests can enjoy fresh, locally sourced meals, whether prepared in their private kitchens after shopping at the local markets in Olhão or Tavira, or savored at nearby seafood restaurant Os Fialhos where bubbling pots of cataplana and fish lifted straight of the grill is the order of the day.
Things to know: The houses have well equipped kitchens and big SMEG fridges, so we recommend stocking up at a nearby market on your way (we love Tavira on a Saturday) and having lot’s of nice night’s particularly because the rooms and terraces are so delightful.

Quinta do Pinheiro is located in Luz de Tavira around a twenty-minute drive from Faro. Fly in and rent a little car to take a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
