A short stroll away across the flower-filled meadows that surround sister hotel Pensão Agricola, you’ll find Hospedaria; a former post office & grocery store, once a popular stop for travellers on their way through the East Algarve. Oozing under-the-radar cool, it’s hidden & you’d be forgiven for missing it, sitting behind a run of white stone walls at the crux of three winding country roads.
Dating back to 1917, the dwelling has been lovingly restored by Lisbon based architecture firm Atelier RUA this is a spot full of intriguing details; the red post office sign that still swings outside as the odd car brushes by, the matching colour of the original doors, re-imagined in a red that gleams as bright as the tomatoes grown on the Algarves farms when the season comes.
Behind the white-washed walls, five bedrooms are graced with their own outdoor spaces, some adorned with fig or almond trees. On the communal terrace, a small dippy swimming pool is completed with an honesty bar where shady breakfasts also await. Inside, the original rooms from the buildings’ glory days are filled with vintage objects from local flea markets upon beautiful concrete & tiled floors which lead into a dining & sitting room. Services: While there is no 24-hour reception, all other services are as hotel-like as you would expect. Breakfast is served daily & dinner is available on request. There is also a pretty Vespa & a tuk-tuk to rent to zip around the beaches & local sights.

The Neighbourhood: The hotel is framed by the East Algarve’s avocado farms, orange, fig, almond, strawberry & carob orchards, a beautiful rural setting yet just a short drive to some of the best beaches in the region. Pop into Tavira on a Saturday to visit the market & wander the historical streets.
Things to know: While Hospedaria is technically located in the countryside, the site sits in the middle of an, albeit, charming three-way crossroads.

The Map
Hospedaria is located close to the fishing town of Tavira, around a thirty-five minute drive from Faro. Fly to Faro & rent a little car to take a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
