Casa Verde
COMPORTA / HOME / WATCHLIST
Sitting on a patch of sand surrounded by 12.500 acres of astonishingly well preserved & pristine reserve that makes up Herdade da Comporta, Casa Verde is a beach-shack-chic hideaway composed of three laidback cabanas. Shaded by pine trees & graced with an unspoiled view of the rice paddies beyond, the architecture of the house is in the pure traditional style of the region: white walls, thatched roofs, driftwood terraces & lush, grassy gardens.
The Parisian owners of the house arrived in Comporta in the 90’s, acquiring their land in 2015 where they built on an entirely green footprint, using natural local materials, solar panels & it’s own spring source. Their aim was to respect the natural heritage of the region that has been protected for its natural beauty by limiting construction & over-tourism. Since 2014, strict environmental laws have protected the area & the result is that Comporta is probably the last Wild West of Europe, comprising of seven fishermans’ hamlets, exotic rice paddies, sand dunes & a 12 km of almost deserted beach. With a simple, back-to-basics tyle, a stay at Casa Verde encourages complete dis-connection & full immersion in nature.
